Governance

Editorial Policy

Every educational page on Detectives Health is written, reviewed and maintained to a clear editorial standard so that readers receive accurate, balanced and clearly-sourced information about laboratory tests.

Last scientific content review: 26 June 2026

Editorial principles

  • Accuracy — content reflects current laboratory practice and recognised healthcare guidance.
  • Plain English — complex pathology concepts are explained for a non-medical reader.
  • Balance — both common and less-common explanations are presented where appropriate.
  • Safety — content is educational only and never offers a diagnosis or treatment plan.
  • Transparency — sources, reviewer and last-review date are visible on every page.

Who reviews our content

Scientific and educational content is developed, reviewed and maintained by Steve Diongo, Founder and Scientific Lead, together with the Detectives Health Team. Steve is an HCPC-Registered Specialist Biomedical Scientist with more than 15 years of NHS laboratory experience and over 20 years of professional laboratory medicine experience across haematology, blood transfusion, coagulation and clinical biochemistry.

How content is produced

  1. Topic identified from common patient questions or laboratory marker library.
  2. Draft prepared using recognised healthcare and laboratory guidance.
  3. Editorial review by the Specialist Biomedical Scientist named above.
  4. Safety review against the medical content and clinical governance policies.
  5. Publication with reviewer attribution and last-review date.

Review cycle

Marker pages and educational landing pages are reviewed at least annually, and sooner if recognised guidance, reference range methodology, or laboratory practice changes materially.

Independence
