Liver Function
Your liver processes nutrients, removes waste, and builds proteins (including clotting factors). These tests show how well it is working.
- Alanine Aminotransferase (ALT)
An enzyme inside liver cells. When liver cells are damaged, ALT leaks into the blood.
- Aspartate Aminotransferase (AST)
An enzyme found in liver, heart and muscle. Less liver-specific than ALT.
- Alkaline Phosphatase (ALP)
Enzyme from bile ducts and bone — raised in bile blockage and bone turnover.
- Gamma-GT (GGT)
Enzyme that confirms liver/bile duct origin when ALP is raised.
- Bilirubin (Total)
Yellow waste product from recycled red blood cells — processed by the liver.
- Albumin
The main protein your liver makes — keeps fluid inside blood vessels and carries hormones/drugs.
- Total Protein
The total of albumin plus all other proteins (globulins) in blood.
- Globulins
Antibodies and other transport proteins, calculated as total protein minus albumin.
